Yeah--I recall when the harridan used to descend on us in the summer and it was always a battle to pry her loose. In fact, his parents always being around was a big factor in my decision to get out of Dodge. My own mother lived close by but she respected our right to our own life.
The in laws were retired and could travel as much as they wanted and I felt very overwhelmed by the whole thing, especially being a young mother--I wanted my little family to myself.
I remember one night I just couldn't take any more of this family bs and opened the bedroom window and escaped. I went for a walk and ran into a friend on the beach and we went to the bar and got all trashed and I for whatever reason I ended up going home all covered in mud and seaweed.
To the ex's credit, he took one look at me and started to laugh and I responded in kind and it turned out okay.

ROFL! Well, she's leaving in December. I'll bite the bullet for a bit longer. She does teach my daughter many, many things. I can't deny that.

You lucked out, I could see me doing the same thing back in the day, maybe even now....., but my problem was my family....and now they have all dispersed over the years, But when came up here, I took my brothers dog to save his sorry butt because he couldn't keep him, now I am the bad one cuz stole the dog from him after 8 months, go figure, put out the APB on Granny..... (he is my best buddy, the dog that is)

Yeah...the old harridan died when the Prince of Wales was 11. I took the call at 9 PM and after that, the phone wasn't quite for a couple of hours. The old harridan was a very well loved woman and that love was extended to her grandson by everyone who knew her.
And the in laws were Sicilian. That was the perfect antidote to my ice queen Austrian heritage. My son gained a lot from having these people in his life and I will always treasure their memory for that reason.
The munchkin is looking beautiful, healthy, and happy. Thanks for sharing the photographs.

Thanks Met! She is very well taken care of. She got some Matchbox cars today, along with some track, and she loved it! Maybe she'll follow along in Pop's footsteps.
