Default Seafood

I love seafood. It has to be, by far, my fav food. Anything thats came from the ocean I'll eat and eat a lot i will do.

So how is it in Alaska? Are there a lot of family restaurants that offer seafood?

Currently living in MN but I'm considering moving to AK. I was thinking the anchorage area, but any info from anywhere is fine

Better home cooked than in a restaurant. We smoke our salmon, and make salmon pate for a spread. Fresh filleted, with Garlic and Lemon.

I put my sugar cured, hickory smoked salmon up in jars. Then enjoy it all winter. Man you talk about good eating out on the trail.

Plenty of restaurants here...almost all of them offer seafood, and much of the time it is fresh caught from local fishermen. For some reason I prefer CODFISH and chips, over halibut and chips. The local fishermen call it "black cod". They catch them in the Gulf of Alaska, along the coast here. Just tastes better to me. I can't get too excited over lobster either, but really like FRESH salmon. To each his own, I guess

I love lobster, but it's too darn expensive for me to get more than once a year. Salmon is free for the taking, and nothing beats fresh trout.

We caught giant scallops off the Anchor Point Bluff one year while halibut fishing. Caught like a dozen. We shut down and fried them in butter and garlic then and there. Talk about good. They had clamped their shell right over the bait and hook. You just never know what you'll pull out of the salt water.

You're making my mouth water, Rance. I never heard of scallops taking bait. What were you using?

Circle hooks with half a herring. We were long lining for halibut. And they were big. The muscle was bigger around than a 50 cent piece.

Seafood is my favorite too. I live in Maine so lobster comes cheap since I know lobsterman who do it recreationally. I almost got tired of it (almost). Most resturants here are seafood too.
