Hi Friends!
Okay, now I know there's been a little bit of bad blood or something going on. I don't really know what it's about & I hope it doesn't continue although I know arguments are what makes the forum go round. However, I'd like to say something on a positive note...I remember when I first signed up on this forum, back in March. I had the great idea of living the Alaskan wild dream, after of course watching "Into the Wild". Now, I don't want this to turn into a thread bashing that guy because personally, I admired him. Anyway, when I first came on this forum, everyone was very helpful & friendly w/my questions about where to move & just general questions about Alaska. Because everyone was so nice, in a bit of a stand-offish kind of way, I decided, once I figured out how to use this damn forum, to stay on here & keep trying to talk to people. It wasn't easy at first. There were a couple of you that were super embracing & I still talk to you guys & I'm grateful for your kindness back in the beginning. I do remember thinking, after awhile, dang! When will I ever start to be treated like a "regular", like all the others that I see on this forum, have been treated. So I just kept trucking along, posting stupid, inane things, just to feel like a part of the group. And you know what? It worked! I know, I guess anyone would start to be included if they kept plugging along at it, but now I do feel like part of your group. And you know, I gotta say, it makes me happy. I'm glad that when I just want to be able to talk about everyday things, I can come here. I've "met" a few really cool people on here & unfortunately I've lost a couple cool people on here (namely Xa'at---Xa'at, where the hell are you???). So this is my salute to you guys---Barkley, who gave me my first rep (thank you, I am ever grateful for that!!), Met who made me laugh first, Xa'at who is wise beyond her years, Highland who made the dream to move to Alaska a reality, Alaskagirl who I had my first forum fight with , ASPilot who is the one who first posted his picture on here (at least that I saw---brave man!), then there is the one from Barrow...I don't think it's Floyd, it was someone else who encouraged me to come & live in Barrow because Barrow has so much to offer (still thinking about that one --not to be rude of course!), Cobolt who I found a kinship about Duran Duran with, & Warpt...Warpt, you are the kindest person I think I've come across on this forum. And I cannot WAIT until you get your butt here to Wisconsinland so we can meet & have a Coke (well, at least a coke for you & a beer for me, this IS Wisconsin ya know!) and then of course Rance----Rance, what would we do w/out you? You've been very patient & understanding & I'm grateful you're not like the other moderators otherwise I'd be banned for life! So thanks guys, I've enjoyed my time here & I'm looking forward to enjoying more talks about moose, salmon, politics & more in the future....did this totally read like one of those highschool wills?? If so, I apologize!

Ok, I edited it, goddamn Warpt, I'm so sorry! You have been one of the first that I spoke with. Although I will say, you were the one person that made it a challenge for me to break through to you in the beginning. For some reason, I got nothing from you! But hey, look at us now!

Thank you, me too! Do you have your horses up there? I can't remember, I do remember you saying you were going to keep them in Wyoming for a bit. I would love to come up, go for a ride, take some pics, have some talks, it'd be lovely.

Major elections do tend to polarize people and that is what has happened here; it's a reflection of what's happening all over the country.
I think that Xa'at got out of Dodge while the getting was good. I hope she'll be back after Dec. 1st.
Personally, I made the decision a few weeks ago that I'd rather hang on to my integrity than maintain false online friendships.
Politically I'm a very conservative Democrat, but because I spoke out against Palin some of the people here have tried to brand me as something that I really am not, and when they couldn't make that stick, they chose to try to attack me personally.
I think that in recent weeks we have all made an admirable effort to confine our political thoughts and feelings to the appropriate forum (the political one). But when someone tries to drag things from here into that forum in order to implement some lame ad hominem personal attack ala Glitch's recent bs there about me pretending to be an Alaskan--well, once again, I just might be inclined to peel off my black leather cashmere lined Coach gloves.
I'll tell ya what, Glitch. You're all about being an "Alaskan", but you seem to have absolute hatred for anyone who doesn't "think" the way that you do. That is not the Alaska that I know and the recent influx of neo-cons from the lower 48 will never change that. Sometimes it seems that you've got nothing else going on but your repeated assertion that you're an "Alaskan". If it's really true that being an "Alaskan" is a frame of mind, you're falling way short, because you're absolutely full of hatred anyone who doesn't channel Rush Limbaugh the way that you do.
You might want to try living outside of Wasilla sometime and see what Alaska is really about.
I enjoy political discussion; I come from a political family and my first hero was Governor Tom McCall ( an old style Republican, by the way). But when some of you can only attack the person and not the idea, you seriously downgrade your own ideologies.
I really appreciate the people here like Satch, AKgirl, stiffnecked, Mal, and Marty, who can have an opposing opinion without sinking to personal attacks.

I agreeabout the attacks, there is someone on this forum that just gets my goat...what an old fashioned saying! But yeah, they do. I don't reply to them anymore because if I do, all hell will break loose & I tend to get emotional & then peole attack that & say I'm not using logic. Logic schmlogic, we all have emotions, if we didn't we'd be Data from "Star Trek" for gods sakes! I am not a conservative liberal, I am straight on, full-fledged liberal, & I love that I'm that way. And only me & my sis in a family of 6 are like that, so I guess I get to be a bit of a scrapper in that sort of situation.
