Default Best hotel in Haines?

Does anyone out there know of the best hotel or b and b in Haines. We are planning a month long stay just for fun. The hotels on the internet leave much to be desired. Does anyone rent there homes out for summer visitors? We would like to be near town and the boat docks.

Default yes, but...

As far as hotels go, you have the Captains Choice, the Thunderbird, the Halsingland, and the Eagles Nest. None of them are luxe, or particularly cheap. The first three are walking distance from everything in town, the last a bit further out. The Halsingland is on the old Fort. There are at least three B&Bs, one in town, one about two miles out, and one about six or seven (don't recall the names). As far as I know they'll all be open next summer.

Home rental is largely word of mouth, and summer properties are a hot commodity as the seasonal population is much larger in the summer. As far as I know there's no agencies that consolidate or broker rentals, but I could ask around if anyone has a list of properties. Lots of seasonal rental spots for RVs, but they can fill up fast if the weather is nice.

Default good idea

Thats a good idea with the CVN. There's also the community website and the radio station once you get here. The latter two are free, and the first pretty inexpensive. Also, once you're here you can look around on the bulletin boards at the markets, they're a good source of info as well.

Rotor, I'm really tempted on a mini road trip there at the end of the month for a couple days. I'll let you know when the day gets closer and how the roads are after the 26th.

Default studs (the ones in tires)

Better pop on a set of studs. Probably gonna be pretty ugly over the pass by then. Folks down from up north are talking about icy conditions from Fairbanks down to at least the border so far...

Like to recommend these folks, they are located about halfway between the ferry terminal and town. Great place and nice folks, you won't be disappointed with the view either!

Hey Rotorhead, good meeting up with ya the other day ...sorry for the handle mixup, Auminer is what I usually use except guess it was taken on this forum.
