I don't off hand recall anyone claiming that polar bears are dieing off at all, much less that we are witnessing an extinction.

Of course someone else posted a claim that they've become extinct in the Lower-48 and Mexico (where they've never been of course), so maybe I should change that to saying that I've never heard any reputable source claiming polar bear populations are in decline. (The wackos on both sides of these ideological food fights are of no significance one way or the other. That happens to include several people who post about this topic on this forum. If you aren't one of them, you should certainly ignore them unless you want to entertain yourself poking them with a sharp stick.)

You've obviously never seen the WWF TV Commercials that do claim just that.

And there you are 100% correct. Those making such claims are not credible sources and in a perfect world would be ignored, but...

This is where the problem lies. Because the WWF and the other "wackos on both sides" are able to raise millions of dollars via advertising aimed at the emotional hot buttons on each side, they ARE significant in that they can persuade scientifically illiterate politicians to set national policies that are not based on sound scientific facts.

Why in the world would anyone want to dye a Polar Bear? Kinda like the flavor they are now.

Gotta feel sorry for the bears on this one, Obama is against them because they are not the normal somewhat passive "Salad" crowd, rumor has it they lean more towards active carnivore-ism. McCain doesn't like em because he is trying his best to get away from the image of him only appealing to "Whites" Tis a "bear-bummer" of sorts.
