Psychiatric nurse prospects in alaska?
Hello, im Kayleigh, 21years old, who lives in west yorkshire in england, i am going to be studying and working to get a degree in psychiatric nursing here, and then would like to move to either alaska first, or start in vancouver, seems has i have some relations there, and then to alaska.
I was wondering how easy it is to become a resedent in alaska, i maybe able to get a green card after ive become a psychiatric nurse. And with relations in vancouver would it be easier? I just want to settle down there and live a reletavly peacefull fullfilling live. Any advice and information from real people who live out there and have moved from elsewhere?
Thankyou for your time
Kayleigh

When you have a green card, to become a resident of Alaska you just have to reside here for one year. It also helps to get a driver's license and permanent address to show your intent to remain here. The hard part is the green card to get into the U.S. on a permanent basis.

I would think there would be a lot of work here for a psychiatric nurse. We ALL crazy, you have to be to live here.
As far as the logistics, I can't help you.

Wow, that is the same area my wife and I work in here in N.C. She is an RN, I am a CNA working on my EMT certification, the hospitals I've written won't respond----Bummer, particularly since we have been in the field for a while.

Dusty, am sure you and your wife would not have a problem finding work here. Even the nursing homes and assisted living need CNAs for sure, but want someone that is here versus just looking, as in any other field. Living in Alaska can be a big adjustment for some people, especially when from the southern states, and they want to feel confident in you are going to stay, rather than boogie out on the first means of transportation out of here...

Dusty - I found until you possess a Alaskan nursing license and have a definite start date, they won't talk to you. They get a bazillion calls a day. They will talk once they know you're coming and have done the footwork with the board of nursing........
