I agree. I was just spinning numbers from the crime statistics link someone else posted to show how data can be manipulated to come up with a different answer. For example, rapes in 2007 were in the 560's for Alaska and 2600's for Washington, hence the 5 times as likely (left out was total population in the comparison). An example of lying with statistics.
I will disagree that every female is twice as likely to be raped in Alaska. A large part of your likelihood of being raped is based on your demographics. I'd bet that a single non-native female, with no family here, is at no higher risk of being raped than the national average. While a female (native or non-native), possibly underage, living with family, is significantly higher at risk than double the national average (may even be higher than 4 times the average). This is based on the information given in Met's link and Marty's post of rape statistics. Most females who are thinking of moving to Alaska are at no more risk than where they currently live and in some cases they may be safer here.
