LL Bean is good, backed up by a life time warrenty. Zipper breaks just send it back and they will either fix it or replace it. Even after 30 years.

Filson, Barbour, and Carhartt for durability, comfort, and super tough outerwear. Windproof, waterproof ... serious outdoor wear.
The LLBean stuff's great for the tourists ....

Wolverines, Rangers or Sorrels for boots. Carhartts and RefrigiWear for Arctic outerwear, for work or play.

What...you don't like animals?
The Army Navy store on 5th Avenue, downtown Anchorage has darn near anything you could need. Is there still that place for mountain gear, ski's, etc? What was it...REI or something.
For head gear I prefer fur. Beaver is very warm. But I have a Red Fox hat that works great.

Thanks for the replies. Rance, did you buy your hats or make them yourself?

I bought them already made. I have no time for trapping, tanning and sewing. A lady in North Kenai (Nikiski) makes them.
