Smile Just Checking

Hi
I been in Ak for 26 years and thinking of working at Prudhoe bay. I work hard as a housekeeper here at the Hospital in Fairbanks but am worried what a 14 hour work day for 14 days in the row will do to me. I'm a little over 50 now and hope to get some input to see if I could make it.
I sure could use a good income ,since I been trying to raise my kid by myself for some time and am having a hard time making ends meet. Working a second job say at Wallmart is not going to help. I do love to read and look at nature, take pictures and such. So,how about it? Has anyone any advice? Thank you very much.

If that's what you want to do - do it! They have housekeeping and cooking jobs also if that is what you're looking for...you're already putting in the time, may as well get some off Question is if you're raising the kid yourself and doing this to make ends meet, who is going to watch the kid? Makes it kind of tough....

I have yet to meet a housekeeper that puts in a 14 hour day, on the slope!

Yeah, at best they do 12 hours a day, seven days a week. All inside work and you are pretty much left alone in most camps to do your work. The crews are either sleeping from the night shift or out working so you don't have to deal with them much except for dinner.

There is a lot of workers there that are past 50, and do just fine. You would have to get use to your time off though, you work a few weeks and then you are off a few weeks... You will have to take up a hobby like skydiving, snowmachines, rock climbing, scuba or something to keep you from getting too bored... Otherwise you will make too much money and can't enjoy it...
