Thanks Metlakatla,
I feel lucky to be taking this trip at all, but since the opportunity has presented itself, I want to make sure to make the most of it.

I have heard how beautiful AK is during the Summer, but I am especially interested in seeing the Northern Lights and actual Winter. I have never been in anything like Winter weather, other than a few patches if snow in Las Vegas and the local mountains. It was 84 degrees here yesterday! I am really looking forward to the experience.

Sounds great Starlite9!

You are very fortunate to live in such a wonderland! It truly is amazing, and I can't wait to see it firsthand!

It has been averaging 20º daily and last night was well below zero - it was -2º at 9 this morn. Definitely will have the chance for Winter

I have been seeing these disposable hand and feet warmers. Does anyone know if they work, or are worth purchasing?

I'm assuming you're talking about the SpringHill Suites, downtown across the street from the visitor's center. IMO, it is one of the better places to stay in Fairbanks. I usually stay there or at Pike's when I'm in town. SpringHill also has an excellent restaurant downstairs - some Bistro something, can't quite remember the name. Pike's is also a good place to eat too.

Yeah, we are probably going to freeze like popcicles, but we'll be smiling popcicles!

Well, if you do end up staying at the SpringHill on 1st, you'll only be half a block away from Big Ray's on 2nd. You'll find everything you need there to keep you warm!

Big Ray's Classic Alaska brand parkas and jackets. Designed for the Alaskan Climate.

Thanks MooseWhisperer!
I started out with reservations all over the place, kept changing my mind, but then finally decided on SpringHill Suites, with one night at Chena Hot Springs for the activites and aurora viewing.

I went with the Moose Lodge at Chena after much information from people who have stayed there.

I've used them when ice-fishing and Aurorae chasing...on the hands at any rate. They certainly helped.

Good to know about Big Ray's, because I am sure we will be needing some things!
