Hi,
Can someone tell me if Craig, Hollis, Naukati and Klawock are considered bush? How far out are they and about how many people in each area? Is there lots of good hunting and fishing in these areas? What kind of costs would it be to rent a 2 br cabin, house or mobile home? Thanks for any information you can give me. Pamela |

You can go here www.city-data.com/city/Klawock-Alaska.html for some info. It's also pretty close to Craig. I've never been to any of these places. Klawock is the only one on the list of Alaska towns, so the others are small or have yet to get any info compiled and entered. Klawaock only has like 800 residents.

Pamela, I'm in Klawock right now. No, it isn't considered bush, and neither are any of the other places you mentioned in your post. Craig has a couple thousand people by now I guess. Not sure about the population of Hollis or Naukati but they are both within an hour a less drive from a good sized grocery store and other things of that nature.
Plenty of good fishing here but I am not so sure about hunting. Rentals are few and far between and expensive--I think disproportionately so. Craig is on the list, it's just in a different category because it has more population: http://www.city-data.com/city/Craig-Alaska.html I guess there is no way to insert an URL here that works. Rance and Rainy:
Thanks so much for the information. Rainy: Do you have any pictures of the area that you could e-mail to me? That would be great! Pamela |

Well, I have some pictures I could post here instead of e-mailing them in case others were interested in what it looks like. These were all taken this winter:
Later on I can post some that were taken during the summer, but right now I'm having connection problems. Last edited by Rance; 03-21-2007 at 11:32 PM. Reason: Pictures removed as per Rainy |

I lived in Wrangell, Petersburg, and on Kuiu Island for awhile. Man now I miss it all over again. Steamers, crab, halibut, bears and cedar trees.

I've only had a couple of weeks in various towns in southeast, every now and then.
