Well, since it is going to come down to a battle of wills (and wits on the husband's part) over the ladder...I may take you up on that

I wouldn't mind at all. Haven't put up X-Mas lights in years. Then again haven't celebrated X-mas in years. And I am use to ladders. ( use to be a firefighter)

Just an update, I've sold my first bit of stuff for the Alaskan Adventure Fund. That's what we're calling it. The kids are even getting into the spirit of downsizing. They are offering up their toys. He he. Now back to Ebay I go, I love that wonderful property selling site.

What part of Alaska are you considering and have you checked out the employment prospects?

Excellent points. I moved here because of my wife's job and Alaska is a completely different animal when it comes to what is considered "traditional" employment opportunities.

This is an absolutely wonderful state to live in if you have all your ducks in a row.

I'm a Registered Nurse working in the Emergency Department in an inner city hospital here in Indianapolis. I intend on doing the same in Anchorage. My plan is to apply online after I've rec'd my AK nursing license, then head up there for a few interviews in March. I plan on having a job lined up before I move. I tell you I've worked med/surg, pcu, resource team and ED and I'm hoping my experience will help me. I may not get the exact position I want but I can work in a different area if I need to. I do not worry so very much about a job. I know that sounds arrogant, I don't mean for it to, but nurses are in high demand most everywhere.

Sophie, I want to apologize for my outburst last night and taking this off topic...some things just get under my skin....I am sure you will like it up here, you seem to have common sense, and that will get you far...

Just a suggestion...whatever you don't sell, donate, or whatever...if you do not absolutely need it, dump it. I am ever so happy we did just that, but we ended up with more 'junk' once we unpacked and realized we didn't need this or that. There are a couple of second-hand stores (Salvation Army store in Wasilla comes to mind) that we donated to...there is one here that will give you a tax write-off as well. Whatever we had left we took to the dumpster.
