Des Moines to Anchorage
Well I am thinking of moving to Anchorage and everything I have seen so far is great. It seems the housing is a bit more expensive though. I have two labs and would want to rent/buy a reasonable home. Where is a good place around Anchorage or the suburbs with reasonable housing? Also is it pretty easy to find a job in Anchorage? I have a 6 yr insurance/finance/software testing background.

Pets are sometimes a hassle with rentals. Easier in the Valley than in town, but they can be found. Anchorage still has growth, but it has slowed down the job market in the past 2 years. Don't know anything about job availabilty utilizing your skills.

Depends on what you consider reasonable. In Anchorage, I would look at South-Hillside and West-Inlet areas. Personally, I would stay away from East & Muldoon. In any case, you're probably looking at a minimum starting of around $280k, but more realistically $300k+ for something nice.

So what do you consider the Valley? I did look into barging my items from Seattle for the drive. I consider 200,000 plus pretty spendy. Can you get anything decent in that price range?

You may be able to find something decent between $150k - $200k. But below $150k you're going to be getting around 1200sq ft. It really depends how much living space you'll be needing. Take a look at homes on the AK MLS.

I would recommend renting first, just to be sure of the location you want to be in.
