I lived on Elemdorf, AFB in 1978-1982 when I was a kid. We played outside all year long, and didn't think anything about the cold. I loved it there, and am considering moving back.

Well, New York State is glad you left.

I have family planning to head up that way; the state isn't nearly as bad as Hollywood makes it out to be.

Not to bash NY state, but Ft. Drum is the coldest place I've ever lived. You get that lake effect snow all winter. We got four feet of snow in one day! It shut down the base and Watertown for a couple days. Plus, the whole state has to pay outrageous taxes to support NY city. Upstate NY is beautiful though during the summer MONTH.

Amen on that!
It does take a special breed. For instance...I was born in the woods and raised by a bear. I've got two sets of hind teeth and a thick coat of hair. I'm 16 inches from tit to tit...and my breath it smells like badger s**t...I'm a wild man!

I learned back in college that there are 3 constants in this world...
lies, damn lies, and statistics.
Comparing the crime rate in alaska to another state is pretty ignorant in my opinion.
here there are (approx) 665,000 people living in a state that is 656,000 square miles in size.
Ok, you got 2 rooms, one with 4 people in it, another with 40 in it. 2 people in the room of 4 get in an arguement, 10 people get in an arguement that has 40.
So, since 50% of the people in the room of 4 argue, it is more dangerous than the room of 40 which only has only 25% argueing.
Makes perfect sense to me....(someone please correct me if my math is wrong.)
