My place is looking for a 20-something who will work. A lot of the kids nowadays are not ready to put in a full 8 hours for a decent wage. We hire laborers at $14.00 to $16.00 an hour if they can hang, and if they have a few skills, they get more.
I was at FNW-Alaska Pipe today, and I met another guy looking for a 20-something with a strong back and a work ethic and was offering about the same.
My kid, 21, working on the slope, gets 2-3 job offers every rotation. He's not skilled labor, but he shows willing, and shows up on time, and listens to what they tell him.
Jobs are not just available, people are searching high and low for a decent worker.

This time of year the oil field runs short on good hard working hands. I'm not to sure about construction around any town this time of year. I'd imagine there is some residential stuff going on tho. It would help to know what kind of work you want or are skilled in.

Well...I have a MS in Criminology. I would love to work for the gov't, but I do know some states require you to be a resident, or at least have a state drivers license, to even apply. I thought about teaching as well.

Wow...that's over my head. I'd try that job site and the Anchorage paper. You just might find they need some help in the criminology department. If nothing else...we have a division of the FBI here. That may also be a place to look?

I used to know Jim Dove at the crime lab here in Anchorage, but he retired this year. I'd check to see if the staties need one.

Mal_fisk....what about a guy that was in the Navy for eight years as a Machinist Mate...with a background in boilers, and hydraulics.....I really don't care if he's gone we are both use to Navy life..Aaron just got out, so we are use to underways and deployments. Who should he get ahold of. I'm not worried about myself made plenty of connections when we were up there in Jan... I still have a chance with the PD and Probation. I have my BA and my 2 AA's to fall back on, and several big connections. It's just him. Once we get something down for him we will move ASAP from KY. Also already have a house. If you can help I would appreciate it.

Actually he can leave now... I have to finish my internship with the Parole office and that ends in MAy. It doesn't bother me though.

I work under the Fairweather Group. Marsh Creek Construction is a daughter company (my oldest is a laborer there) that is the general contractor for the new Shell Shorebase facility in Deadhorse. Jack McCay is the Superintendant. James Nunley is working for both the construction and environmental side. Probably as a general foreman for the construction side at this time of year. We have a web site, and I'll pm you with particulars. I work for the energy systems side of the house. Most of the work at environmental and construction is on the slope and is a rotation schedule (2,3,4 weeks on, 2 weeks off).
There are close to a dozen contractors looking for sharp folks with a will to work that I know of, and its not limited to construction. I know of a well drilling outfit with 2 guys in their 60's looking for someone to learn the business.
Problem is that you have to WORK for money, and that seems a little tough for some folks these days. According to the paper today, Anchorage has a median income of over $60K. That means at $20/hr, you have to put in a fair amount of overtime.

I have no idea where Prospect KY is but I will find it. I just PM you back. I know he was thinking about trying to get into drilling. Aaron is going to call tomorrow, and ask some questions. If you have any numbers go ahead and PM them to me, and he can call and talk to someone and fax some resumes out. If you also know anyone that could be interested I will pm my number to you. I'll tell you what happens.
