Is that really true? If so... that's great! I'm looking to move to Alaska after I get out of college and find a job there.

I was born in Anchorage and lived there until I was about 8 years old, then moved to Arizona. I am so sick and tired of the heat, so I think I want to try moving back to my "homeland."

And arizona_chic, I live in Arizona. I recently visited Alaska in March, and I have to say that it really isn't all that bad. I would take the below freezing temperatures over the heat ANY day of the week.

Honestly, as an Arizonan, I never thought I would say that 20 degrees felt fine, but it really is just fine. As long as it's a calm day, and the sun is shining, Alaskan weather is really really beautiful.

You should really try visiting there before passing judgment!

I dont know that much about Alaska, but I would probably like it BECAUSE of the weather. I am a CA native and the weather here is boring. 70 degrees average temperature year round - you can have it!
Cheers to my Alaska neighbors !

Default old school Alaskan

hey Rance. you remind me of my father [trapper lee] loved the cold, slaped griz bears around, was attacted by a little black bear, and eaten, his only reget was he was afriad of snakes. RRR there are strange things done in the mid night sun that will make your blood run cold by the men who moile for gold.oh! we did find one boot. ok so I cant spell. thats what happens to an old alaskan that leaves and talks sh##. anyway Iam glad to see someone who is still tied into the old ways. sure wish I could recapure that feeling.

what do you know about mosquites? Iam from alaska. my pop, Trapper Lee told me everything about mosquites. grandma was not taken by mosquites with saddles and double c brands burned on their rumps.I investigated the matter, that ranch never exsisted! futhermore the attact on the s/v kelly never happened. two mosquites can not lift a 30lb sammon. cut it into equal pieces. and drop just the head back onto the deck of the boat, 20 miles out to sea. however there is one account that the state troppers said was real.
a drunk was driving home from the bar one night in fairbanks. he saw two lights on the hiway coming head on at him at a high rate of speed, the dodge truck was totaled. the government has hid the two 300ld bodies of the mosquites, claiming they where not aliens. but a light weight weather balloon. however, roten Rodney and jackrabbit Tim from fairbanks claim to have pictures of the saddles and double c brands, they have never been heard from sense, the also said mosquites where spelled wrong. they both have 4 grade educations . I have alot of old alaskan stories, but those guys in black trucks show everytime.

Won't be long and the big ones will be out! Then they get smaller and smaller through the summer. And harder and harder to hit.

AZ Chic: I know it is seriously hard to wrap your head around snow unless you live up North. I am very familiar with the heat in AZ. Frankly I am starting to ask how can people stand 9 months of heat (winter is really nice...just too short). If we survive the piercing heat of summer, Alaskans are doing the same in the cold. I can't wait to experience my first Alaska winter and summer too. New experiences are the spice of life. Did you know there are more men than women there? um... possibilities.

Default Anchor Point, Happy Valley, and Homer, Alaska pics/comments

Where is Kaparuk? That is a really, really nice picture you shared of Kaparuk. What is that factory?

I wonder if anyone has any pictures of Anchor Point, Happy Valley, and Homer, and know what kind of rentals and jobs are around there. And, if anyone has heard of any diesel mechanics needed? The diesel mechanic I know trained at the Alaska Vocational Technical Center.
