Kuparuk is on the north slope of Alaska. To the west of Prudhoe Bay, and south and east of Barrow. That picture shows 2 drilling rigs on a drill site, and the production buildings and equipment used to heat the crude oil so it can flow down a pipeline.

Pioneer Natural Resources has a new pad about 5 miles off of the coast of Kuparuk. You might have the diesel mechanic send a resume to Marsh Creek Energy Systems. We might have an opening. Fax it to 907 279-0180, and address it to the service manager.

Hi, all, Im just visiting you ...not in need of anything special, but for many many years have been interested in visiting Alaska, and after seeing the pictures of this thread, I an now DYING to come up, lol....I live in Jacksonville Beach Florida with my husband and two teenage kids, one girl 19 and a son 16, my husband and I are both retired from the Navy...
Id be curious after reading all your posts tho if we ever moved there what kind of jobs are available, federal or local, my husband is a diabetic, and takes him a long time sometimes to get over things like colds and flu, because his immune system doesnt work good due to the diabetes, so I seriously doubt we will ever REALLY get to stay for good, but the heat here in florida is getting to be harder and harder each year, also, the illegal immigrants are really moving in on us down here, not to mention of course, high taxes and hurricanes ... can ya tell me tho, about jobs, and how is shopping???... are there Walmarts and malls?...Target or Kmarts?... and how about housing???...is it alot???... I dont mind cold weather, in fact Id love to try a new climate for a change, and is there a crime problem of any degree??... its getting worse all the time here in Florida, so many child abductions and much more, how is it for teenagers??...are drugs bad??... schools ok???.... well, questions, questions I know.... but Im v. curious, can ya help me out in any way?....great sense of humor in so many of you, I think Id not only like the scenery and GORGEOUS mountains and lakes but the people as well, I still think of Alaska as another country, is it like Canada in any way??...havent been there yet either... thanks for any help and enjoyed reading all your postings...thanks so much.... from the southern state of florida....xoxo ![]() |

Feel free to scroll through some of the older threads as many cover exactly what you asking. There are Walmarts and Home Depots and all the modern convieniences in places like Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Fairbanks, and getting that way in Kenai and Soldotna.
You can look at the job web site here: http://www.jobs.state.ak.us/ You can look at the Anchorage News Paper at www.adn.com I don't think housing is any worse than most states...and maybe better than some as far as renting etc. Depending on who you talk to schools are good and bad. Drugs are here. Some places worse than others. It's an awefully big place and quite spread out. So I'm just going to say it's pretty nice living on the Kenai Peninsula. I can't answer for anything north of Anchorage or southeast of Seward.

Walmart's, yep. Malls, uh-huh. Target, think we got one here in Anchorage. Kmart left the state. Shopping is a big city kinda thing. We have Costco and Sam's, Borders, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc.
Jobs are plentiful for skilled labor, trades, medical, engineering. We don't have a lot of other stuff. As mil vets and retirees, fed jobs are better than possible. Schools run the gamut from excellent to shoddy in the same school districts. Depends. Universities are excellent. |

Hey Ar Chic, Hav U ever given a thot of how much clothing U can shed and still stay reasonably decent to keep cool in the Summer heat? And even if U decide to wow the guys w/clothing optional, 100+ degree weather won't help. So U will stay inside an A/C house all day or loll in the pool? When U are cold. as in AK, U can always continue to add layers of clothng until you are warm. I am not an Alaskan yet but I've been in very cold and very hot climate. I prefer to add clothing

I love summer time here. After months of cold and mass amounts of clothing...the ladies start wearing more skimpy outfits. And going swimming at the lake and seeing bikinies is awesome.
