Default barge services in interior alaska

I have notices there are serval barge services on the Tanana on the south side of Fairbanks and another company in Nenana. I am wondering how often these barges go up river in the summer?

Mostly i am interested in transporting building supplies and a backhoe up to Manley Hot Springs. Do you have to charter a barge or is there often extra room?

Any ideas on prices?

There are a couple companies in the interior. There are a few shipping companies. Yukon Fuel, Yutana Barge Lines, Inland Barge, and Crowely. I don't think any of them charter a barge by itself. They do make scheduled stops on the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers. Most of the time they haul both a cargo barge/fuel barge combination.

Manley Hot Springs is accessible by road via the Elliott Highway. Where's the backhoe and building supplies located now?

The three barge company's are based out of Nenana where I live at, they head down the Tanana River from there after receiving freight from the Highway or Railroad headed to the Interior.

As far as Manley, you can drive there on a pretty fair two lane dirt road year round and get anything you want taken there by semi-truck. Using a barge would cost about three times as much by the time you freighted it back down from Fairbanks to Nenana, then back by river... only during the summer months.
