They got the same rating from the Anti-fur bunch too, broke my heart....
During the Fur Rondy at the fur auctions, there is always a group of about "ten" that show up from the Lower 48 to protest the hundreds at the Fur Auction... They don't get very many supporters....

I guess my biggest complaint is summer traffic. Traveling from the peninsula to Anchorage an lead to a major case of road rage. I've found that pulling over to take a few pictures here and there helps.

The Bad:
-cold weather + very short and rainy summers
-high cost of living (groceries, gas, products, shipping, airfare etc)
-minimal night life even in Anchorage
-many national and international stores and banks not found in Alaska
-overwhelmingly conservative (it's nice to have a mix of people)
-low diversity
If you don't mind cold weather, appreciate mother nature, and don't mind small towns, Alaska is a good place.

duh...forget the political crap though he is right and no state income tax....doo dah - doubt they are coming here to get guns...way easier ways to go about rather that move to AK...
Cold weather, short summer...yeah she knows...
the rest she knows....I have Wells Fargo and do online banking just fine, along with direct deposit for my job...thank you....
when were you in Alaska.....
low diversity...you are so out of the ball park...Alaska is a melting pot with everyone here from all over....you do not know what diversity is... when were you in Alaska last and where....
you are full of poop......
Fau short for phony...I have lived in a city too, won't go back Mpls./St. Paul, some bad traffic...where I choose to live, does not even compare...we joke about rush hour through Soldotna here...yah the RV's are ugly, but still nothing compared to real traffic....

I utilize Wells Fargo as well...online banking makes it all so simple, Deb. As far as shops and stores - bleh....not a fan of shopping anyway. Yes, it was a wetter than usual summer (so I've heard) but it was beautiful. The Winter arrived early and I look forward to the gentle snows daily.
Deb - you've nailed it on the head. Alaska is very diverse and unique from what I've experienced in the short time I've been here.

The fact he/she said that there is "low diversity" was a major tip-off. Just go to the A Street Walmart and tell me that there's little "diversity".
And hit Chilkoot Charlies before you go talking about "minimal night life".
And the conservative thing? Well, you really don't want me to get started on that Mr Faux.

Chilkoot's is a "meat market", at least from what my good former cop buddy has told me. In other words, if you are looking for some recreational, physical activity which could result in conception or a STD, hit Chilkoots.
As a married man, I wouldn't know.
