Default Four-Wheeler in Palmer

Hey all,

I have a few questions for you regarding a four-wheeler. In Jan or Feb I will be driving from Chattanooga, TN to Seattle, WA. Once there I will ship my truck from Seattle to Anchorage. I'll be driving from there to Palmer to live. Before I leave TN I'm strongly considering the purchase of a four-wheeler. They are cutting over $2000 off the price (for those interested, I'm thinking of getting a 2008 Honda Foreman 500 ES 4x4, Camo finish, all for $4700).

Now my questions.

1) Once I get to Seattle will they ship a truck with a four-wheeler in the back, they won't charge me the rate of another car will they?

2) Will I get more use out of a four-wheeler than a snow machine, my thinking is I can use a four-wheeler from March/April to Oct/Nov. Am I correct in my assumption?

3) Are there many places to ride a four-wheeler in and around Palmer and the Mat-Su Borough (meaning riding in and over private and government land)? Are trails common around there?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your help.

Depends on where you are going to live, some areas the snow is pretty much blown a way all the time. Having said that, the fourwheeler can have a snow plow mounted on it and you can use that a lot during the winter anyway.

If your choice is a fourwheeler verses a snowmachine, the fourwheeler is going to be used more than the snowmachine year round. The snowmachine in winter will go more places that can't be accessed by the fourwheeler too and is limited to winter, but it is a trade off of what you are looking for.

For your first "Toy" of that size, I think the fourwheeler will be much better suited for your rec needs.

All the brands are pretty good now days, Honda is no exception. I have a Yamaha 400 and it does everything I want it to, and an old Honda three wheeler that won't die, just keeps starting and running.

If you do get one and ship it in your truck, make sure it is locked down in the bed of the truck and tarped.

There are places all over that you can take the four wheeler, as time marches on though, they are getting restricted in their use as in a lot of other places, and where you will be living at will dictate that more than anything else. Not to mention the idiots that do the stupid things that cause them public distain and the ensuing restrictions.
