Anyone know anything about this area (North Prince of Wales Island)? Me and another guy are planing on taking our boys and spending a week in July in a recreation cabin on a lake there. I read there are some caves and old growth trees, fishing........

We will first spend a couple days at Port Morrow, where we will work on a friends fishing boat just for the fun of it, then meet our boys at the airport for the trip to the cabin. Haven't really decided on which area to get a cabin, thought I'd check with the experts on this board first.

Thanks.

Red Bay Lake and cabin is BEAUTIFUL. I've stayed there several times and it's probably one of the more awesome places on POW--and that's saying something.

It is a good base for fishing--there are trout in the lake--caught a small rainbow every cast one summer's day--don't know if there are huge ones in there or not. There are also salmon in the lake during peak seasons...and great salmon fishing in some streams is only a short drive.

Red Bay Cabin is a little bit harder to get to than your typical walk-in. There is a trail about a mile long and then you must row about a mile to get to the cabin in a FS skiff. The row is usually only a pain if there's a north wind blowing...lake is long and narrow and runs n/s. I wouldn't suggest bringing a motor unless you can pack it easily and it's real light. I have a Merc 3.5HP and that is even too much to bring--at one point, the trail crosses a stream and you have to crawl across a big log...sometimes you can walk across in X-Tra Tuffs--depends on flow.

Cabin is gorgeous--two bunks downstairs and a loft upstairs. It overlooks a big, vertical mountain-side that drops down into the lake.

Send me a personal message if you want more info. I know lots about the area and the cabin.

Default Red Bay Lake Cabin, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska

A friend and I have reserved the cabin on Red Bay Lake, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska for a little over a week in mid-September. We hope to primarily hunt (bear and deer), but will likely also fish a bit from time to time.

If you have any information or can point us to any resourced that may give us an insight into the Lake and how to best hunt it, the information would be apprecited. Any other helpful hints you may have about the cabin and any preparation you would suggest to insure a safe and enjoyable stay there would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Steve

We ended up going to a different cabin SE of there, but I do know you can rent a suv and drive to the lake (planned that part out), I am told it is a long drive and the price, at that time, was less than a bush plane ride. Hopefully AKgirl or someone who knows the area is watching and can fill you in. good luck.
