Default Ban lifted on firearms in National Parks

Hey all! How are folks in Alaska responding to the Bush administration overturning the 25 year old ban that restricted loaded guns in the national parks and wildlife refuges? I haven't heard any chatter on here about it and was just curious. Of course you have to have a concealed-carry permit from your state to do this. Also this lifted ban only applies to federal parks, not state parks.

Here's a link to an article about it in case anybody missed it.

Firearms were banned in National Parks? I don't think many Alaskans care. I know I don't. I always carry a couple firearms when I'm hiking in the bush, and I don't care whether it is a National Park, Wildlife Refuge or anything else. When the wildlife start abiding by the boundries established by the Feds, then so will I, but not until then.

Alaska also does not require a CCP to carry a concealable firearm. State Park Rangers actually encourage people to be armed.

I think its a good thing down here. Too many people have less than desirable encounters with two legged thugs.

Several national park run areas already allowed them in Alaska. Now the ones that didn't (Denali for instance) you can at least legally conceal a gun (maybe business will boom for NFA short barreled shotguns/rifles). And in the lower 48 it was always people that posed the greatest danger. I've always avoided NP's, national forests are better, they follow state laws so I have no problem carrying any weapon anyway I feel like it in VT (same is true in AK), and, find a good spot and in most of them you can do a bit of target practice...

I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!! Just being over the mountain from ya', I can attest to that. There's been more thug attacks in the Smokey Mountains (and National Parks in general) than animal attacks. You don't see many thugs robbing a gun store clerk. If your a thug why not rob a tourist in a national park where guns aren't allowed? So I for one am glad they lifted the ban.

Here in TN we still cannot carry a gun in the state run parks. The lifted ban only applies to federal so I hope the state will follow suit. I doubt they will, but I mainly go to the Smokies and hardly ever go to the state parks here anyway.

I keep remembering the stories about folks getting raped & murdered along the Appalachian Trail. Are the Smokies having problems too? My wife & I were married in Pigeon Forge.

The likelihood of it happening in the Smokies is low, but it does happen. Wherever theres people, you'll have problems unfortunitly. You'd probably stand a better chance though of a bear gettin your beef jerky.

The Civil Corps Of Engineers have a few "no firearms allowed signs" over by the sloughs by Moose Creek near North Pole. Also, there are signs for "no loaded firearms" by the road along Denali Park. Although a lot of us don't pay attention to those signs, the rule change is a good thing since now we don't have to worry about having to conceal guns in those areas.

seems like a modest gesture since rangers are scared to death and pot farmers carry ak47s & use em. those pandilleros have their permits to carry assault weapons and resident permits to be living and growing dope in the national parks right? george approved that, that is why they are openly doing it correct?
