Tougher in Alaska
We've been watching this show just to get even more info (if possible) on AK and what we will be in for.
We just watched an episode about Waste Management. They said that no food wastes since 1993 (you can't throw away food).
Don't know if they just meant Ketchkan or all of Alaska.
(btw the episode about the state troopers was great. got to give those people alot of respect for doing that job there)

The episode was about how the sewage freezes up and getting rid of trash and how many times they have to ship trash out of state.
Alot of it was based around Ketchikan and the bear situation there. They said that a law in place since 1993 states that food trash cannot be thrown away. We don't know if they just meant Ketchikan because of the trash situation or the bears or if it is a law of Alaska as a whole. |

I saw that episode quite some time ago, and yes, I think they mean just that area.

My food scraps go into the garden. Fortunately no bears have scaled the 8' fence to get any of them.
