Default Ashley Who???

I grew up in Soldotna and moved to Anchorage 4 years ago. I LOVE Soldotna, even though I don't live there anymore. It's very small, around 4,000 residents year round. The summers are hectic with all the tourism and winters are long and cold. Most residents play hockey, ski or snowmachine to make the winters pass. (The rest party - )

I have 3 sons that are 22, 24 and 26 who were all born and raised in Soldotna. Seems that one of them - at one time, was dating someone named Ashley. It's that small town thing. Everyone knows everyone.

There used to be a Radio Shack in Soldotna (I think it's still there) but you may starve to death on the wages. Rent is reasonable compared to Anchorage but gas and groceries are a bit higher. Check the State of Alaska home page for employment listings.

Good luck to you!

Radio Shack is still on the Spur...on your right as you go through town toward Kenai.

Default differences

Where to start?

Soldotna is generally colder and the fishing is way better, but there's no boiled peanuts. If you can't do without, better stock up before you leave. Also...nobody there will have a clue what a "cathead biscuit" is and if you want sweet-tea you're gonna have to sugar it yourself. On the positive side, there's no fire ants, no kudzu, and did I mention the thing about the fishing?

Wow!
Okay, let me try this.
I'm currently employed as a graphic designer with the university of Alaska, looking for more steady pay...

Now I just have to sit back and watch the job offers roll in!!

Haha, just kidding.

Sarah- have you checked craigslist? I know some people who found roommates through there and were impressed. I'd also recommend contacting a local realtor.

Well, might as well pick up a 25# sack of raw peanuts and bring em with ya. I suspect you can find water and salt even in Alaska. If you've not tried 'em this way, may be worth givin' it a shot. I used to be a purist, salt only, but some Mexican friends of mine told me about it, and danged if they weren't really good. To the pot just as it starts boiling, put in the juice of three limes and one whole jalapeno, the pepper just melts away by the time the hulls on the peanuts get soft, it really won't heat up a normal 3# boil but the result is great!
