Default Big Lake questions

May possibly purchase a home with acreage just outside of Big Lake. It's on a smaller portion of a lake. If there is anyone out there familiar with the Big Lake area, I would appreciate any type of information you could share with me. We have lived in bush Alaska before but would like to get on the road system this time. Mosquito problem, no seeums, snowfall, wind, and anything else as far as info would be appreciated. I know Alaska has mosquitoes everywhere in the summer as well as no seeums, but didn't know how bad they may be in Big Lake, especially living close to the water. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wind is not bad at Big Lake, there is more snow there than in Wasilla. Mosquitos...depends on the micro-location. Probably not as bad as whereever you are in interior bush Alaska. If the land is cleared with very little underbrush and high grass there are likely very few mosquitos.

From the pictures I have (will see the house in person before/if we buy) it appears that there is some small open area around the house which is very close to the lake, and then 36+ acres of trees behind the home so we'll just have to see about the mosquitoes and noseeums. As you pointed out though, it may not be too bad as far as the bugs.

Pretty nice places there, but you need to see it in person before you buy it.

I agree. I've driven partways around Big Lake & there are very nice areas & not so nice areas.
