Red face A 5 year old

Does anyone else out there get excited about Christmas and presents. My wife says I am obsessed about what my presents are. I don't think I'm that bad, but I think she referred to me as "worse than a five-year old". I'm just wondering if I'm alone in this. I'm thinking there has to be others out there that get excited about presents, or are just very curious and can't stand an unopened box. Let me know......

I so seldom receive presents that they no longer thrill me at all. Strange, I know.

I don't look forward to Christmas as much as I used to. I don't expect anything anymore. Sure, I get socks and shirts and shaving things every year, I just don't think of it the older I'm getting. I got a close friend of mine a new point and shoot digicam, I couldn't stand her crappy Kodak camera. She'll be happy.

I'm looking at your photo right now Steve & I can imagine what Christmases were like when you were growing up. I used to be that way myself till at some point I wanted to sleep in & do a leisurely Christmas. Then it was my Father's turn to wake all of us up early & rip through the presents.

As I got older Christmas became more of a time for friends & family than it was about opening gifts. I usually give my wife a few ideas for presents for me & I guess as to what she might like. Oh & we never ripped through the boxes on Christmas Eve, nor were we allowed to touch them. We could open up one gift each, then we had to wait for Christmas Day & we had to wait till the adults had their coffee tea & cameras at the ready.

I think that next year Cori needs to take the two of you to an undisclosed location on Christmas Day. The only presents under the tree at home will be empty boxes. Sometimes its more about the love that goes into the selection & presentation of the gift, than it is about the gift itself.

I never thought I'd disagree with HighlandHighness about anything -- but I think you're better than a five-year old. JOY IS THE WHOLE POINT OF LIFE! JOY, GLEE, MIRTH, MERRIMENT. You're doin' it right, Steve.

I'm the same. It's the magic of mystery and largesse-just-for-me that makes me grin. And every now and then we get the added joy of "Wow! This person really cares about me enough to know what I like!" Isn't that a delight?!

Brother_Greg is on a distinguished road
Me and the wife have not exchanged gifts with our families in 3 years now. We take all the money we would have spent and give it to a local shelter that helps feed, shelter and clothe the homeless. It's funny, my wife's family said that was a great idea and they now do the same. My family is very materialistic and doesn't seem to understand why we do it. The difference in us and my in-laws versus my family is that we put Jesus Christ first in our lives and especially at this time of the year. MY family puts themselves first and how much they can aquire and they wonder why they're not happy. All I hear them griping about is having to buy for everybody, fighting the crowds, not enough money to spend on Xmas and how their return wasn't as much as they gave.

I hear people say, "this is the most joyful time of the year, people are nicer this time of the year". BOLOGNA! People are more hateful this time of year because they are in a mode of "have to buy" and "under pressure to get it down". People REALLY NEED to watch the Grinch more closely and learn from it. If my family got their presents stolen from under the tree one of the first things they'd say would be, "our Xmas is ruined". That's not what the Who's in Whoville did. They gathered around the Xmas tree and sung.

So to answer your question..NO..I don't get excited about presents but I do still get excited over the Christmas season. I enjoy the carols, decorations, lights, Xmas songs in the stores and on the radio, the Xmas cartoons and so on. At 36 years old I still get excited to watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for the 500th time.

Sorry for the ranting folks. I didn't mean to take it out on the forum. I'm still a little mad and concerned about my mother (God love her) because she was "disappointed" with me because I sent her a Xmas postcard instead of a "real" Xmas card. I'M NOT LYING FOLKS! She said postcards are for when you go on vacation, not for Xmas cards.

Anyway.....Merry Christmas and God's blessings to all of you.

Don't get me wrong it's not so much about the gift itself I think it is the extreme curiousity at what might be in the box that get's me. Don't tell her but I think it's the fun of bugging here for a month about it also. If anything it has brought my mom and her together more because they can relate to each other now.
Signed,
Still wondering about that one box????

I have to admit, I'm way worse than a 5 year old! I just can't wait for the grandkids to open up all their presents, I just love the excitement!!! Plus I can play with the toys! Growing up I never had Christmas, so now it's all twice the fun

This year is an exception i admit in advance. This year we did the grinch thing and cancelled Christmas. We are having family and friends over the day after Christmas but thats it for the celebration. Thankfully with the current economy everyone in our family was on board and it is a take care of the under 18 year and thats it.
Since nice rains have hit socal and my business that was very slow is now doing very well we are praying that missing this Christmas will enable us to have a white Christmas in Alaska next year!
