bkyhi will become famous soon enoughbkyhi will become famous soon enough
The last few times I've been out that way - I saw some folks setting up a tent with the words: "Base Camp", with a bunch of gear. Not sure if they are going out on the ice or tundra, or maybe the building just overflowed. Not much activity but it is interesting to see.
I probably won't get out there for a couple of days or so, by that time the tent could be gone.

Hummmmm, I believe that, when Steve was a grad student, he slept in tents, camping out at -60, South Pole stuff then. Don't know if he would rate a room in Barrow or not, a big burley guy, black beard, glasses, perma-grin. He claims the only reason the let him into the doctoral program at Ga. Tech was because he was the only applicant big enought to carry the gear. He says the same thing about his post-doc in Toronto

LOL, I keep forgetting it is winter, today, clear, sunny in the 60's was out with the dogs, barefooted, shorts, short sleeve shirt. A storm system is coming towards us, for us to get snow two separate things have to occur, a cold front has to show up from the north, and moisture has to come in from the Gulf of Mexico, if it is timed just right, we may get 4 in of snow, they are saying it may be possible in a couple of days. We had one snow so far this winter, about 3 inches, lots of fender benders and cars sliding off in unrecommended directions. I have no idea why the locals slam on brakes instead of using the engine drag, or, why, just because the speed limit is 65, they think they have to do 70 across an iced over bridge. Maybe my bud Steve will be in the first group to arrive, he seemed excited to see Alaska.

Hey there, just bringing this back to the front page, Steve should be arriving sometime soon, soon being a completely relative term.
