Area between Kenai and Nikiski
Hi
Does anyone know if the area between Kenai and Nikiski is ever referred to as Salamatof by any of the residents? I have found the name on a couple of maps and since the house I am buying there is north of Kenai city limits but not actually in Nikiski, I'm just wondering if that would be the proper name to call that area.
Regards,
TB
...edit to add: When checking the City-Data page on Salamatof it actually gives population numbers and such as if it is a legitimate name of the area and not just an old obscure name. Any help appreciated of course.

I don't normally go north of Kenai, but from what I can find, it is a designated census area, unincorporated community, am assuming the same zip code as Kenai. I think a lot of that here, when we lived just out of Kenai the area was called Beaver Creek, but not a town in itself...

Thank-you Granny.
That does make sense. I'm really wondering if anybody in that area actually refers to it as such, or will I get snickers from people if I do it. Maybe I'll just have to wait until I make my move up and just sorta see. When friends and family ask where in Ak I'm buying, I just sorta alternate as to what I tell them. Some of my closing papers say Kenai and the appraisal says Nikiski, so I dunno. Then I found the Salamatof name (which really nails the area perfectly as to location) and oh boy I got
Lol, and maybe I better wait and hear someone else say it first as I'm not sure I can even properly pronounce it.

TB
...and I almost put your name in the thread title because I was pretty sure you would have some insight for me. Thanks bunches.

There are a lot of old Russian Orthodox churches in this area, and the name "looks" Russian to me. There is an old church in Kenai that is a landmark, and I wonder if this might not have originally been a village connected with it? Just a guess... On the map it looks closer to Kenai, like just on the outskirts to me, as some city streets or roads near....
I just did another search and there is a Salamatof Native Association with an office in Kenai, so maybe native rather than Russian.... , but no matter, if you're not sure, just say north of Kenai...or south of Nikiski and can't go wrong

I found this searching Google.
Salamatof is on the Kenai Peninsula, on the east shore of Cook Inlet at the mouth of Salamatof Creek, 5.5 miles northwest of the City of Kenai.

I knew Salamatof sounded familiar. Before we moved here, we were looking at the Kenai area due to my wife's transfer to either Kenai or else where.
That's an interesting one Granny.

There are a lot of unknowns here with all the little villages and areas,..what got me was this Peter Kalifornsky, as one of the main drags between Kenai and Soldotna is Kalifornsky Beach Road or K-Beach...I always thought was a strange name, like a play on California somehow...now I know where it comes from and feel much better

Wasn't there a movie called Kalifornsky, or something like that?
I know it had nothing to do with the Kenai area though.
