Well, we hardly see the sun at this time of the year, but when it does it shows around 10:00AM and goes away around 3:00PM, but it's so low in the horizon that sometimes one sees it only between the tree trunks.

Sunrise at 10:54 AM
Sunset at 2:56 PM
Duration of day: 4 hours, 2 minutes (today, 23 minutes more than yesterday).
Sun: South at 12:55 PM. Altitude 2° above horizon

The other things that seem to break are engine belts. Hit a snow drift and it could freeze them and cause them to break especially since they are already cold from the air temp.
We don't have a light up sign here in Central for the temps but we do have a temp.guage on the only stop sign so I can get you a picture of that.
We don't have running water but the pipe that our grey water runs out is frozen solid so the hubby has to bring home one of those strips to help it out. No fun having to carry water outside in these temps.

When it get around -45, serpentine and other belts just snap. A new belt may last a few seasons sometimes, but as they ware-out and develop small cracks, extreme cold weather just takes their flexibility out. That's why it's a good idea to inspect all belts and replace the ones that have cracks and worn spots. Soft tires can also malfunction when very cold out.

Yeah belts don't always last well in the extreme cold...They should be checked really every season, and I think it's always a good idea to keep an extra belt or two in a kit in the car just in case one snaps in the middle of nowhere. Might be a pain changing it, but it's better than being stuck out in the cold...

Well.. my mother lives off of Farmer's Loop just barely out of town and her kitchen sink freezes every winter. She finally had the bathroom rebuilt so that doesn't freeze up anymore, but as every winter for the past 20 yrs!! So - yes - you *can* freeze up... hopefully if you do once, you can get it fixed the next summer so it never happens again!

I however live on the other side of town but also north of the Banks and have had no problems with freezing up as I have a basement so all of my pipes are well heated. My truck wouldn't star yesterday though - the battery finally died on me and had to be replaced. Today - it wouldn't start until it had been plugged in for a couple hours first!
