It is true, our produce and meats were not the quality and/or more expensive back in northern MI. If you think about it, either way most the produce gets shipped from the west coast or Mexico. In MI it has to sit on a truck for days and days and days before getting to the stores. Here it's flown in and trucked for a short time, at least here in the valley or Anc.

Yes Alaska is a good place for rescue shelter animals. If they originate here. Don't plan on bringing any more in from other places tho.
The meat here is edible. Both wild and domestic. And the coffee ain't bad. The tea is even better.
