Default Plane Tickets

So I just checked on Alaska Air tickets for my July vacation... they haven't come down from late spring when fuel was considerably higher. I want to reserve early enough to get the good rate, however don't want to miss out if fuel prices bring tickets down.

So the question is how were prices back in the days of cheap(er) gas compared to today?... I'm looking at $700 rt. Boi-Pdx-Anc... Any thoughts on waiting for possible savings if oil stays down through the spring?

I've been flying oversea's for the last year and a half. My last ticket was 700 bucks higher than they've been the last year. The price never dropped a dime when the fuel prices did. So now you've got the bag charge, little or no meals, and no drop in ticket price. And my last flight was with NWA.
I'd buy your ticket as far in advance incase the price goes up any more!

I think Sun Country flies to Portland? I just checked and when they start doing Anchorage again in May, tickets the end of May to about mid June were only around $210 RT from Anchorage to Mpls right now...some dates in mid June it practically doubled. There may be some benefit to checking different airlines...July is kind of prime time for tourist season here and they know that...

Thanks all, guess i'd better shop around a bit... sucks how the price increases in everything are sticking around longer than waranted...and yes warpt, I will drive up soon, just not this first trip... I want to see Alaska, not Canada for the better part of the week and a half I get... That's one big state I need to see.

btw...as for July I was hoping to see swamps/bugs/combat fishing season... not tourist season

FYI all... checked Sun Country, they only go to Min, and don't fly out of any N.W cities.

NWA saves 50 bucks to head south to SLC before heading North... shorter layovers though... thanks for the advice everyone

Not an expert by any means but have been checking into ticket prices and found that by going through Alaska air direct prices were 300 higher then by going through a site like cheap tickets. Again dont know if that works out or not just info i saw checking prices.

I have heard of some very good "Out-on-the-Wing" specials, as low as $25 one-way. The only downside is that you have to bring along your own food & drink.

In Oct '07 and May '08 I paid $745-$760- both times through Priceline.com - for a RT flight to MI and both tickets were purchased well over 30 days in advance. Our gas prices have come down, but not nearly comparable to the Lower48 yet! I'd be more afraid of the prices going back up before buying than I would be afraid of getting a ticket before they come down more. I'm no expert in gas prices though or flight prices.... so that's just my two cents for comparison!
