Thumbs up Where to go 4 me?

First I gotta say the pics that have been posted - AWESOME! Here's my dilema: My husband is moving to St. Paul Island for his dream job but because we have a dog (little girl to us) I can't join him. I however would like to relocate somewhere in AK to be at least alittle closer. I know St. Paul has one flight in and one out daily (weather permitting) and it can be expensive but at least if I was somewhere closer it would take hours instead of days to get there.

We've been married a long time and I am more than willing to make the adjustments because he is a wonderful husband and deserves this opportunity. I can always find something workwise. I also know AK is uber expensive so maybe Seattle? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anchorage isn't necessarily more expensive than Seattle.

In your case , Anchorage or within driveing distace . Your looking at a chunk of change to fly from ank. to seattle . I would suggest within driveing distance myself , but if your a city-slicker you'll like it .

Hmmm...are you sure you cannot take a dog to St Paul Is? I would check into this a little more first...make a few phone calls. That is a very remote location, and I would think dogs would be ok to have. In most rural Alaska areas dogs are VERY common pets. (almost a requirement) If not possible, then Anchorage is an option. However, finding an apt that allows pets is not so easy...might take some searching. If I were to move into the Anchorage area, I would seriously consider communities just to the north 10 to 20 miles, like Eagle River, Chugiak, or Birchwood...all about a half hour or so commute to Anchorage. http://www.anchorage.net/library/eklutnamap.gif
To get an idea of rent costs for these areas, search here: http://www.adn.com/classified/rentals/

Thanks to all for the information, I will look into all the suggestions. I am sure that St. Paul does not allow dogs. It is due to the large seal population and they (St. Paul) are concerned with diseases dogs might bring in. Checked direct with the Mayor's office on that. I'm sure there are cats there and I don't see the difference but I don't make the rules I just obey them. Again thanks.

Bud

Dogs on St Paul and St George are definitely no-no's

Cats are allowed.

Spent time out there.
