Seismicity rates have increased dramatically over the last 48 hours. Currently, the earthquake rate is up to 26 events per 10-minute period. Many of these events are large enough to be recorded at the more distal stations of the Redoubt network, including NCT and DFR.

"An eruption of Mt. Redoubt began at approximately 22:38 AKDT, March 22, 2009 (0638 UTC). AVO is raising the aviation color code to Red and the alert level to Warning. Initial height of the eruption cloud is estimated at less than 20,000 ft above sea level at present. Further reports will be issued as more information becomes available."

Ummm...no! It's 11:00 PM here! And cloudy. Can't see didley. I could have swore I heard a boom about 10:30 PM...but had just checked the volcano site and it was still orange. Looks like it went within minutes of checking the seismic chart. Pretty cool.

Warpt the ash should be headed your way come mornin!
