Yes I'm headed to work in a couple hours. Not sure what they'll tell me at the airport. Might get stranded in Anch for a few days!

Down at the Port of Anchorage today, sky was a tad blue up North, but you could see a gray haze out past Sleeping Lady. They say the ash plume is now headed towards Mt. McKinley, it may circle around and head back on Anchorage, hope the ash is pretty well drained out by then, not good on cars.

Talking with a Cathay Pacific pilot, he said he is stuck here till they start bringing their planes through. The ANC based planes are going through YVR and LAX right now.

There is a small Glitch (I swear I had nothing to do with it ) in the AVO report. It says:

Quote:
Traces of ash fall have been reported in Skwentna, Talkeetna, Wasilla, and Trapper Creek.
There has been no ash fall in Wasilla as of 7:30 AM. What I believe they meant to say was "Willow" and not "Wasilla."

Some years ago, a Boeing 747 (of Qantas, I think) had to make an emergency landing when fine volcanic ash over Indonesia got into its engines and knocked out some systems.

Seismic activity at Redoubt remains elevated and low amplitude volcanic tremor and small discrete earthquakes continue. No additional ash emissions have occurred since last evening.

An AVO observation and gas measurement flight is scheduled for this afternoon.

The National Weather Service ashfall advisory is no longer in effect.

Images from yesterdays's field observations can be found here: http://www.avo.alaska.edu/images/recent_images.php
