Seismic activity at Redoubt Volcano has declined over the last 36 hours, although there have been several brief increases in seismicity associated with minor low-level ash emissions. The last known ash emission was at 5:12 AKDT this morning. The plume from this event did not extend above about 15,000 feet. Based on the level of seismic activity, AVO is lowering the aviation color code to ORANGE and the volcanic alert level to WATCH. "

I'm confused. Redoubt blew its stack twice today (so far), and four times the day before, and a the big eruption was the day before that. So in the past 36 hours there have been 6 eruptions, and AVO now says "seismic activity at Redoubt Volcano has declined over the last 36 hours?"

Granted, none of the subsequent eruptions after the 7:41 PM eruption on March 23rd were as large, but that is still a lot of activity in the last 36 hours. A great deal more activity than in the prior 2 months. But suddenly it is only an Orange Alert status even though the last eruption was less than 5 hours ago? What gives?

I agree on the confusion, especially when the first ones took out the RSO recorder and the camera...Maybe they think they can gain enough info fast enough with what's left to change it to red again? By going from red back to orange (with the activity that has taken place since Sunday night with 8 eruptions to date) what is to gain...planes are flying again...

A small explosive event occurred at 10:17 AKDT this morning. The plume from this event was not detected by radar, indicating that it did not rise above approximately 12,000 ft asl or contained very little ash. This explosion triggered a flowage event on the north flank of the volcano as indicated by seismicity.

Since this event seismicity at the volcano has remained steady, but low level volcanic tremor.

Seismicity has been relatively quiet for the past several hours since a brief explosive event at about 5:12 AKDT this morning. A minor ash plume may have been produced by this event, but it does not appear to have reached more than 15,000 ft above sea level.

It just blew twice again this morning, the latest sending the cloud up to 65,000 ft. Their goofy little flag has been changed back to RED. They are just trying to be like any other good government agency and attempting to micromanage the Volcano.
