At 19:25 AKDT March 27, 2009 (3:25 UTC March 28) an explosive eruption occurred at Redoubt volcano. National Weather Service reports an ash cloud height of about 51,000 feet above sea level.
This follows closely behind the eruption that occurred at approximately 17:35 AKDT (01:35 UTC) that sent ash to an estimated height of 40,000 feet above sea level.

interior. The ash cloud is expected to make its way to Nenana,
Fairbanks and Delta Junction by late tonight. The ash is expected
to be very fine and most of it should remain aloft. If any ash
reaches the ground in the interior it will be only trace amounts
which may be contained within falling snow and be barely
detectable.
There was another eruption at 535 PM this afternoon. The ash from
this eruption is expected remain aloft as well, but will move
over the southern interior by early Saturday.

there has been trace ash amounts here in valdez tonight. i got off work at 6 and there was grey water marks on my car from the snow/rain coming down. my wipers made a barely audible screech the couple times i was forced to turn them on do to the greyish snow/rain mix all over the windshield. at first when i saw it i thought it was just road dust then the wipers screeched, then my footprint in undisturbed snow was brighter then the snow surounding.  then i was convinced...lol

Ouch!!! Try to rinse your windshield and wipers to get if off before using them again...wonder how many people will be driving through cloudy scratched windshields before this is all over? I wonder what the rental companies think?

It's as I said to the GG...would the flights from the slope go to Fairbanks and just bus the guys down you think? I don't know how this works - I rather missed the last go
