We had quite a rush of men coming into the store this evening looking for panty hose. Made for some fun comments and some red faces

Not sure if we have any ash here yet with all the road dirt on the snow you cant really tell.

So if they are contractions, what next a plume of lava?

Would be neat see a new bunch of land forming and some lava cams set up there. May even be a good excuse to fly out that way and get some neat shots of the flows... after the ash stops flying around though, that stuff will eat an engine faster than you can afford to rebuild it.

Oops, wrong key!

My hub is stuck on the Slope, due to the cancelled flights. A couple other people I know have not been able to rotate up. A few flights left Prudhoe the other day but stopped in Fairbanks. I've been told it is pretty crowded up there, due to this mess up in flight schedules.

My hub flies on the BP/Conoco Phillips Shared Services planes, they haven't moved in a couple of days.

There is a big low pressure coming off the Pacific this evening, the volcano going off and the winds later on should be interesting. Looking at the maps for this storm, southwest Alaska might see some ash if it erupts again.

High Wind Watch

Statement as of 5:15 AM AKDT on March 28, 2009

... High wind watch in effect from late tonight through Sunday
evening along Turnagain Arm and higher elevations...

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a high wind
watch along Turnagain Arm and higher elevations... which is in effect
from late tonight through Sunday evening.

A strong weather front will move into the northern Gulf late
tonight. Ahead of the front the pressure gradient will tighten and
channel strong winds through Turnagain Arm and higher elevations.
Winds will increase overnight to 45 to 60 mph with possible gusts
to 80 mph after midnight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. People are encouraged to closely monitor this
weather situation. Preparation for this potentially dangerous
weather event should begin now.
