Crossing Canada
My sister and I are planning to "move" to Alaska for the summer. I will be taking my 5th wheel and she, her pickup with a topper. My question is, how difficult it is to cross the borders between MT and Canada then, Yukon and Alaska?
We will be taking ususal household stuff in the 5th wheel and some work stuff in her truck.
Any info would be most appreciated.

Not hard at all. Just have your documentation in order. Don't bring any firearms. You can ship them via-Alaska Airlines airfreight. That's the no hassle way. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for this info. Guess I should have been a little more specific. (This is my first time doing anything like this on the internet). I live in my 5th wheel, and therefore have lots of personal things as well as tools, household items, etc. The only thing I have found out about crossing the border so far is that I need a list of everything I am taking across, in triplicate. To unload this thing and inventory it would take me forever. Is the border very nit-picky to try to cross. I don't own firearms, but do have fishing poles, a laptop, cameras, stuff like that.

The main areas to know about are passports, firearms, alcohol, pets, traveling alone with kids, and past convictions. If none of these affect you, you should have no problems.

Depending on where you cross and what mood the border guard is in, can take as little as five minutes to get into Canada.

Yes, make the inventory list, but only give it to them if they request it. As to how nit-picky they are, it depends on the border guard. Sometimes you're only asked a few questions, other times, they may ask you to empty everything. Answer only the questions they ask and never give any smart answers.

To somewhat reduce the pain at any border crossing into Canada, cross at a major crossing in mid day

When we entered Canada with 5th wheel 1-1/2 years ago, we had guns which they wanted to see...one guy went in and shushed about for a few minutes, but it was so full of crap, I think he gave up. The other one wanting to see the guns saw an apple box further back in the belly (full of more crap) and wanted to see what was in it...So check the food regulations also, as don't want to lose $$ there. Also make sure cupboards shut well. We went over a stretch of washboard and the doors flew open resulting in broken dishes all over the place. Good thing was a jar of salsa came out, hit the wastebasket and broke rather than on the counter

I've never seen this requirement for an inventory list in triplicate? Does anyone have an actual link to something from the Canadians that says that?
