Alaska is a big place, and that means the weather can vary considerably. While Fairbanks and other interior locations may be colder with longer winters than Maine, south central and south east Alaska are warmer with shorter winters than Maine.

South central Alaska doesn't get much colder than Iowa or Nebraska, and south east Alaska is considerably warmer, albeit a great deal wetter.

Move to Florida. Houses are cheap there right now. Condos are even cheaper. I can set you up with a good realtor if you like.

That is why Alaska's population is only 700,000.

I am moving somewhere warm, but not Florida. I like Florida and might live there someday but the Southwest is a better option for me right now. I am moving to either Las Cruces, New Mexico or Tucson, Arizona.

Or really fricken freeze everything in 30 seconds make your eyelashes stick together and your Rockstar slushy on the way to the truck that's barely idling and hasn't been shut off for 8 days because it'll turn into a Chevycicle burnin' diesel that's just 4 degrees above turning into gel despite the fact that it cost $4 a gallon but it's cheaper than freezing to death even if the heater only blows 20 degree air on "High" but you still have to pull over to help out some brainiac hippy Subaru driver with one headlight stuck in a ditch 'cause they swerved to miss a Ptarmigan and they don't have a strap or a shovel so you let them in your rig and they stink like week old cheese and feet but hey it's Alaska and we all do our own thing so no harm I'll just Febreeze the seats after I drop you off in Fox way outta my way cold, like in the Interior?

?
hehe i pulled a subaru out of a ditch in goldstream with my old rusty flatbed toyota the other day... i just had to say that

It was -40 and the poor girl said "its ok, my boyfriend has a van, he can pull me out"

i just ignored her and continued to strap her car to my bumper...

Well Barrow is finally getting some decent cold -38F tonight w/c -64F (10mph) - FWIW. Unfortunately it's overcast - no skygazing tonight.

citydata91 you asked a fair question. At least you know what you want/like and and what you don't want/like. You didn't ask something like: Do you think I could handle the cold of Alaska?

You were just curious and it gave us all a chance to read some funny stuff in this thread. Thanks NorthWord.

Thanks for your curiousity.

Hey, you might also consider Hawaii. It's warm all year round, rains frequently but not for long - nice to have a light rain as the sun shines brightly and warmly. Only drawbacks are really the distance and cost of living. But at least it's never too cold or too hot.
Good luck.

My daughter goes to school in Tucson. She loves it there in the winter. But its much too hot in the summer. We are going down to visit her in March.

Marty, I was watching Channel 2 News when they had those big snow storms in Seattle. People were trying to get to Alaska. They interviewed a "Jennifer Van Diest," is she your daughter?

From what I remember, Tucson starts getting a bit hot in March, but still has some cold left. I was in Scottsdale for work a number of years ago in November - just after the hot and before the cold - best time the locals said.

Warm enough to swim and lay about the pool in the day, but comfortable to walk in the desert in the late afternoon. Pretty much after the snakes quit slithering about. Never did see a rattler but an abundance of rabbits.
A few of the guys drove over to Tucson, and then all the way back over to Vegas, but I had to be in California for another job.

Similar weather to Tucson I believe. Nice desert landscapes.

University of Arizona? That's why I might be moving to Tucson.
