But Warpt, they do!
Look at the jobs that Calista has created since 1994 when Mathew Nicolai took over as CEO. Look at the lack of such jobs prior to that (or at least the lack of sustaining such jobs). Look at the debt that Calista has paid down in order to get back to a position where it could pay dividends. If that debt had not been paid down there would never be another dividend.
The current management has brought Calista back from the edge, and you are blaming them for not doing the totally impossible. Blame those who took it to bankrupcy, not those that inherited the mess to clean up.
But still... keep in mind that you don't have timber or oil, and Calista will never be able to sell off natural resources to pay shareholder dividends. Bad luck, but that's life too.
Another thing you should consider too. The way ANCSA was set up required some of the wealth to be shared between Corporations, just because of that disparity of natural resources. ASRC has never developed anything that would require the profit to be shared. NEVER!

Is this why Palin cut short her attendance at that conference? To go back to Alaska to address this problem? I sure hope so.
Anyway, payday is Friday. Also, have sent emails to colleagues and friends. Wish I could do more--sorry.

It's not only Nunam Iqua, there is also Emmonak. You can call Emmonak Corporation at 907.949.1129. Emmonak Tribal Council at 907.949.1720 or 1041. City of Emmonak at 907.949.1227 or 1249.

From the address I reposted, Ann had a very basic list, and it doesn't take much to fill a $10. flat rate box, but can help a family and kids and maybe just a few treats to put a smile on their face that they probably wouldn't be able to have. I even talked Lizzy to forgo her treat at the store (but putting it in the box) and it put a smile on her face to give it....

About 15 years or so ago the Fairbanks New-Miner published an editorial which took the same attitude. They basically said that everyone who lived in the bush should move to town in order to be properly civilized and to educate their children.
Only a few years back, when the City of Bethel wanted to build a Senior's Home in Bethel, the State of Alaska suggested that it be build in Anchorage because that was less expensive. My daughter testified at a public hearing with the statement that sending Yup'ik elders to Anchorage was the same as killing them.
Western observers delight in falsely claiming that Eskimos traditionally set their elders adrift on an ice floe when it wasn't easy to feed them... but in fact it is Western culture which abandons elders, and in the case of Bush Alaska they don't even wait until people are old!
