looking to move to talkeetna
i am interested in moving to talkeetna for summer 2009, possibly stay for the winter. i already have a line on a few jobs but am having trouble finding info on rental cabins. i have been living in healy, ak for 7 years and am no stranger to small town living. i am currently visiting family in louisiana and plan to return to ak in early april. i have a dog, who in fact is cleaner and better behaved than some people i know. i am a responsible, clean and hard-working 30 year old single woman. i am looking for a cabin to rent for the summer. i dont need electric or running water but would prefer to be in the heart of talkeetna. maybe someone out there could suggest a good place for trudy (the dog) and i to live??
any help would be greatly appreciated and i will prove to be a good neighbor.

Hi...
now is when you want to start looking, before all the summer people show up.
Right when you drive into town, there are some cabins on the left side of the road. I've seen for rent signs there quite often in the past.
If I were you I'd drive down to Talkeetna and stay in the Roadhouse for a few days. Get to know some of the locals and you'll find a place.

Well it is only a three hour drive there from Healy when you get back there, why don't you go down there on a Sat. morning and look around. Really neat place to be at, but nothing like Healy. It is very condensed verses Healy is spread out a bit farther out.
You can post some notes up looking for a place and/or work.
Being a gal, you are going to be one heck of a lot more popular than single guys... I think the guy/gal ratio is way out of wack, about 20/1 or so.
I also think that is where the phrase came from about the guys as said by gals...
"The odds are good, but the goods are odd"

There must be something about Talkeetna. I am also considering a move there in Fall. Heard it is really nice...

Yes. Currently in the Portland area. Getting a little burnt out for sure. Need a slower pace of life.

You'll find that there...there's something peaceful about the place. My son lives in Portland (college student/chef) and was born there....born in Palmer actually but we lived in Talkeetna.
I'm glad you're going in the fall. You'll get to know the real town without the touron invasion. You can get the best blackberry pie at the Roadhouse.

Thanks! I will definitely go to the Roadhouse and have some.
I am really happy with my decision to move there. Been mulling it over for over a year now. Hope it will be a nice place to live. It will be nice to simplify things for a while.

With all these people moving to Talkeetna what are they gonna do for work in the winter? It's a nice place but I never saw many year round job opportunities.
