Iditarod start in Anchorage
I will be arriving in Anchorage March the 6th 2009 for a weeks stay and would like to watch the start of the Iditarod in Anchorage on March the 7th 2009 . I will be staying for two nights at the super 8 in Anchorage and will have a car rental. I would like to know a good place to watch the start of it.
Thanks, Jerry

Ceremonial start is on 4th Ave downtown Anchorage and goes for about 12 miles. The actual timed race starts in Wasilla. Due to lack of snow the past few years, they moved the start up to Willow.

These are links to the Iditarod site. There's also a forum here specific to the race that might be helpful.

Too bad you didn't get there a couple days earlier, they have the Musher's banquet at the Sullivan Arena on Thursday night, cost $50 to get in, but the show is great, they musher's draw their numbers for the race.
I sponsored a couple of guys for a number of years and went each year. You get a dinner as part of the price, which in years past is OK, but you will sit at one of the Musher's tables and meet all of them if you wish to walk around the place. I know a bunch of the guys so it was always neat to go there.
One of these days I am going to go to Nome and watch them come in at the finish and go to that party too.
