One of the "Catches" on the free land was building a house within a set time. I drove over there the other day and there is some houses going up, but there was apparently a few lots with nothing going on, I don't know if those are going into "Default" for not building anything and will be "Re-given away". You can contact the City of Anderson and find out what the deal is....

I have read so many threads here and have some questions for anyone willing to answer them, as it would be appreciated. I'd like to hear from the locals, if they would care to comment. What happened to the good old days when you could live off the land and hunt your own food, pan for gold, are those days gone? Must everyone either be rich, retired or have full time employment to make it in Alaska now? Do you have to move to the bigger cities for employment? I also read about a shortage of drivers with a CDL "A", is this true? Could you still work like say, half the year, and make enough in wages to take time off in the sumer months to fish, hunt and still be able to pay your mortgage? I have lots of winter mountian pass driving exeperience here in WA state, do the professional driving jobs pay well? I have head the grizzlly bears are cute and cuddly, do they like to be petted, scratched behing their ears, have their faces pulled into weird postions like you do your pet dog, or is that not such a good idea? What's the deal I read about all the land is for non public use now, minus a few places and state parks? Can a person just stake a place more North East, like say towards the Yukon area and just live free on your own? Just curious...So many questions, send me the bill for your time, I'll put a check in the mail...LOL

No, they just have to work a bit harder...

Yeah, they really like to be scratched behind the ears... I like to use a .338 ear scratcher mostly, to really reach out and AT&T them myself....

That was called the D-2 land issue when the Democratic controlled congress turned much of the State into National Parks and Preserves before the State could pick it's State Land as part of Statehood.... Thank them...

Well...the 'aren't griz's cute and cuddly' part does...no, wait; he was going to douse himself in bear urine and hope it detracted the bears from eating him. This chap only had maybe one or two spelling errors and his grammar was far better than LT's.

Thanks for reply on this, yes I work very hard, what I am getting at is I want to make a better life, rather than slaving 60 hours a week like I do. The wages here (WA) are being hacked in half by illegals who'll drive semis for $8.00 an hour. This hard to keep competing like this. Many of my O/O friends are going belly up now.
For those that critisize mispellings and poor grammar, jeez get a life, this whole board is full of threads with them..lol
To answer the comment of me being JT, not sure what that means or if another person you might think I am, this is my first time here. Just trying to gather information about a possible move there. Did not know so may would take offense to me asking some questions. Some o you make it sound like outsiders (with a twisted sense of humor) are not welcomed.
But back to the bears, I use to watch "Gentle Ben" as a kid, c'mon, they don't like being walked on a leash too? Can you scratch their bellys and will they atleast play fetch?
Crap, they don't sound like they're very good pets I gather.... ?
Probably would poop in the cabin too, that would be a big mess. Perhaps I should get a cat, like a cougar instead?
