Guess what. If you can't make it in the lower 48 you have less than a snowball's chance in hell of making it here.

Unfortunately, this isn't unique to Alaska. Many people these days just want to take from any place and "get" what's in it for them with very little to contribute. Welcome to the self-absorbed, narcissistic, disposable "gee I wonder why the f*ck I can't pay the mortgage on my house and fill up my hummer" society. They were born and bred in the -48, have taken what they can get, and are on their way up North. That's okay though. Alaska has a natural process of selection and the survival of the fittest. Weed out the trash.

But you already knew that...

Uh, yeah.

What you don't realize is that there are significant portions of this state where you'll have a snowball's chance in hell of making a snowball at all, even in January.

Kinda makes it rough on us igloo dwellers up here.

It won't be cheaper at all. In fact, it will not only be very expensive moving up here, but if you read other posts relating to the cost of living in Alaska, plus the cost of heating fuel, you better have enough cash to support your family from six to twelve months. Winter will be here very soon, too. For example, in the interior of Alaska, Around Fairbanks, the temperature is supposed to be in the 30's tonight, and some folks are just recovering from a flood that took place a couple of weeks ago.

Hehehehe... its funny considering I hear that property taxes are killer in Alaska... and Alaska isn't exactly New York City or Los Angeles... it isn't even close... I suppose for those that enjoy the cold, they will love it... Its not very accessible to the rest of the U.S.... I can't imagine the prices to fly to the rest of the U.S. or somewhere else for vacation... in the end run, it costs more just to have this piece of land then to pay for a piece of land somewhere else in the U.S.... but to each their own... if someone really likes Alaska, it is a good deal... for the rest of us... its a bad deal...

What Ray and Satch, and Pat and Met and anyone else said - cheaper doesn't play up here, be prepared to pay way more than you imagined....sorry, but true....

Yes, it has been cold and raining almost every day for weeks now, then the sun shows for an hour of two every now and then. We have already had frost in the interior, sometime in June.
