Hi there,
I am a German citizen, traveling to Alaska shortly for an extended (3 to 5 month) trip through the wilderness.
I have been told to better carry a shotgun (rifle or big-caliber hand gun) for self protection. I am a licensed hunter (which is not easy task to do in Germany), do I qualify to purchase a shotgun in Alaska? If not, are there any alternative ways to get one?
Would appreciate to receive your input.
cheers

You'll need to get an Alaska hunting license to be able to bring a gun in...

You might trying buying a can of pepper spray over at Sportsmans Wharehouse once you get here. I've carried the stuff and it works. At least when I accidentally sprayed myself it worked really good.

Where will you be spending your time?
I know a guide outfit that takes several German hunters out each year, I could put you in touch with them and they could tell you the specifics of your chosen area.

Not just once either. After the second time I figured out there was a reason they put those glow-in-the-dark safety levers on them. I never knew so much snot could run out of my nose. And a gallon of tears streaming down my burning face. At that moment in time death would have been a welcome relief. Thanks goodness though the effects only last about 3 days.

Well maybe it's just me but I'd want more than pepper spray. Pepper spray doesn't always work, and sometimes the wind just blows it in your own face.
