Pretty quiet place, I haven't lived there, but stopped there often and have friends there. There use to be a lot of Tourist flown though there for the trips on the river up to the Katmai National Park to see the bears, but Alaska Airlines stopped most of those flights and sub them out to smaller carriers.
I rather like the area, not much for trees and such, but there are a few compaired to a place like Barrow or Bethel. There is a very expansive military base that is all but buttoned up and in mothballs.
Don't know what kind of work you would do, but it would be fun for awhile to say the least, and a blast if you really like it. The single guys outnumber the single gals, but that is what most of the Alaskan Bush is like.
