We don't get NOAA WX here, but I have a Marine Band VHF radio that you can hear the reports on.

Wow, I am amazed! I would have thought Alaska would certainly have this service. Is this true for all of Alaska or just in the region you are in?

Yes, that's the one. Thanks for posting it--I haven't looked at it for quite some time and it's good to know they're doing their summer employment thing, as I help students heading to or in college find jobs.

Yes, this weather service is available in Alaska. However, depending on the location some radios can't receive the signals. For example, the signal is nice and clear at my moose-hunting campsite, which is located on high ground approximately 65 miles from Fairbanks. I can even pick the signal with my 2-way Midland GMRS/CB radio from the campsite, but if I go down the valley, this 2-way radio can't pick the signal. Now, I have another radio (AM/FM/Weather) that I can install an outdoors wire antenna, and it has no trouble picking the signals when down in the valley below.

Look at the CC Crane web site, and look for a radio that is not too expensive (around $40.00), but one you can add an antenna to. Now, if you are moving to any of the cities and towns in the interior, any radio with a weather band will be fine.

Good info, thanks. I'll check out that web site.
