Where is your favorite place in AK?
I imagine some of you are living in your favorite place, but some may not be. I always thought the Denali area would be mine, from all I read about it, but after spending 2 summers in the Icy Bay area, and my limited experience in AK, I have been thinking of going back to that area. Had 80 miles of beach all to myself, big river beds to hike up and pan for gold. Lots of wild life, somewhat limited, but good hunting in the area. Surrounded by Ice burgs, eagles all over the place, fishing was good during part of the year........
I don't think many are willing to give exact locations, but should be able to give areas and still not worry about readers flocking to it.

I like Southeast Alaska, not so much one town, but all of them. I would love to live on a boat, drag up anchor now and then and move to another bay. But that isn't going to happen, so my cabin up by the Toklat river system is by far the best, the cabin overlooks the lake with a view of Mount McKinley out the door. The Northern Boarder of Denali National Park is just a few miles to the south of the cabin. Lots of wildlife all over, fun to sit by the lake with binoculars and watch the birds, moose and bear wander about. At night, there is always a host of critter noises going on to keep it entertaining. At some point, will move there full time when all is completed in a few years.

I have not been here a year as of yet...hence, I haven't explored all that I can. Denali has something magnetic about her - pulls me in everytime. I can just sit and watch her for hours.

Any glacier - I have 'glacial fever' as the husband coins it...I cannot get enough of them. Especially when they calve:
I am one who has to have mountains....and there are plenty here.
