First, congrats on your move! I was down in Houston a couple weeks ago, couldn't believe the traffic! I can see why you are ready to move up here.
What exactly do you consider cheap housing? According to a link from another thread the median home price in Anchorage is $285k.

It depends though on what area you plan to look at.

Moving to Alaska with no job prospects can be a big problem. Job cutbacks that have hit the lower 48 are now hitting here. You'll need to have 6-12 months of living expenses saved, in case the jobs take a long time in coming. Also, you'll need funds to move back if you end up not liking it here.
While it may be easier to move to another state in the lower 48, moving to Alaska takes planning. Some who've moved here have planned for months or even more than a year.

I share akck's concerns. Do you have any savings that you can live off of till your men find work? How large of a house are you going to need? Nine is a lot of people to put in a smaller home.

You and hubby should fly up here and look around. Not much for ranching here...so other job skills might be in order.

That's true. They could always work at Rance's ranch. Do you guys have any experience with roping moose?

I too share akck's concerns. Here's a few more links for you to check out.

Finding Work in Alaska
Finding Work in Alaska
Lay offs have started here and many people are out of work. More and more families are moving up from the lower 48 making it even more difficult to find employment. There will be seasonal jobs but the pay is usually low making it difficult to live on. There are very few agricultural type positions, like you are used to, due to the short season.

I hope you're joking
Oh my. I sincerely hope you are only joking. Alaska is beautiful, the people are friendly, but it is not responsible to move a family of nine, with no jobs, no place to live, and a skill set that doesn't match the local economy. Please re think your plan. Perhaps send the three job seekers up first.
