seeking summer employment ...
Greetings,
I am seeking summer employment in Alaska. I am willing to do just about anything, but have most experience in media as well as the service industry. I met a few people who work in Skagway in the summer, and they seem to enjoy it as a money-maker. I was wondering if anyone has any information on how easy it would be to find employment in some of the more touristy towns. Or if anyone has any suggestions of other, more authentic Alaska locations where I could find work. My boyfriend will be coming as well, and he is very into the outdoors - hunting, fishing, etc - and would love to do a guiding position, or would be willing to do any sort of labor.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!!!!!!

Skagway blows, but it's very beautiful geographically, and you can see Alaska from there. Here's some job listings:

Ha. "Blows" isn't exactly the word I was looking for, but I appreciate your honesty! And thanks for the link.

And hey--do yourself a favor. Don't look for work in one of those horrendous jewelry stores. And--don't let any employers try to take advantage of you. One lady posted that she was offered something like 7 bucks an hour and then would have to pay 600 or so in rent for a trailer.
Some of the young people camp out along the river in Skagway; some employers offer housing.
Skagway Brewing Company might be a good place to work; if money is your thing than I believe the tips there are quite good. The season in Skagway lasts for five months, which is a bit longer than farther North. You also might want to consider working in Denali simply because it's so beautiful there, but their season is only three months or so.

Posting job openings is all well and good but first she has to get a work visa.
